Biblical Masculinity: Fierce and Gentle

Last weekend, VOX City Church had our first MAN Camp, a chance to eat meat, drink beer, play sport and sit under God’s Word to us as men.

We discussed five things which define biblical masculinity:

1. Discipline (1 Corinthians 9:19-27)

2. Disciple – learns to follow before he can lead (Matthew 28:18-20)

3. Sacrificial – the pattern of  dying to self and pride in order to serve (Ephesians 5:25-33)

4. Learners: Not mere knowledge-gainers, but those who learn, attempt things, risk it all and are not afraid to fail.

5. Faith: we ought to be men who have great vision and ambition for being used by God and seeing what God would do in our church and city.

We summed it up in two words FIERCE & GENTLE.

Creating a Culture:

As a result we are calling our men to a culture of:

1. Honour – each other, our leaders, women, our wives, our kids.

2. Challenge – call one another on sin, complacency, arrogance, power trips, lack of love etc

3. Service – each other, our families, our wives, our church, the city, the poor.

4. Celebration – victories among ourselves, marriages, child-birth, conversions, Kingdom dreams.

5. Committment – to our families, church, leadership, other men.

Just so you know:

This is where we were:

The fabulous Flora Bay Resort in Hout Bay.

And for fun this is what we watched:

And on a slightly more serious note…
