Getting Missional at the Craft Market

My wife signed up to do a local Christmas craft market.  We thought it would be a nice outlet for her creativity as well as a chance to make some extra cash for Christmas.

For reasons we won’t go into the craft market was a bit of a disaster logistically and nobody (us included) really sold much.

A disaster?

Not really.  Of course we have to switch categories from extra cash to missional mindset.  We met a number of new people who live in our community.  One who even lives in our road and invited us to join a novices body-boarding club they are starting.  Why not?

Also met a few Christians who I knew from before but who I did not know where living in Melkbosstrand (“Milk bush beach” for non-Afrikaans speakers).  People who we want to connect with and get involved in helping us think missionally about our community.

A lot of work and thinking still to do, but it is amazing who God brings across our path when you are just present, engaged and involved in the events of your community.  I often wonder where I will find people to connect with, build Christian community with and engage on mission with.  But God doesn’t he has it all under control.  He just asks me to get out of my ghetto and get into the community.
